7 1/4" UP Big Boy

Here we have a pretty spectacular model! A 7 1/4" gauge Union Pacific Big Boy, 4007! Not quite a completed model yet, but very well on the way with all the big bits completed. Sam Limburg spent the last 25 years researching and creating this locomotive over in Holland from the works blue prints, but unfortunately ill health has necessitated the reluctant decision to pass the project on to a new home.

We considered taking this on ourselves as although there's still a lot of work to do, the finish line is definitely very much in sight, but ultimately have reluctantly decided that it isn't economically sensible for us to do that for ourselves, but if you'd like us to finish it for you after you've bought it, then that's definitely a conversation we've happy to have!

The correctly shaped boiler is steel with expanded in steel tubes, and is professionally (and nicely) made with all the important certification and paperwork. The bottom end is all there, and has run on air, and has also been tested around the track to make sure everything rolls, bends and follows the track as it should!

You'll notice that currently the boiler is sitting too high. We aren't sure why Sam set it so high, which he's clearly done consciously with additional spacers under the firebox and barrel. A cursory inspection seems to suggest that there's nothing in the way of dropping it down to where it should sit, which in our view would transform the overall appearance of the model, which currently looks slightly 'fat', because of that.
